5/6/2023 0 Comments Stick ranger magician![]() ![]() ![]() This is Gabrion, and as his hat may have clued you in, he is the head chef of the castle. He’s all “Yes, Your Majesty! Right away, Your Majesty!” to someone off screen and then he turns to the camera with, well, honestly the facial expressions in the game are pretty static, but I’ll assume it’s with discontent burning in his eyes. But don’t worry-like I mentioned before there are only four total, so you won’t get spoiled.Ī medieval-styled trumpet sounds overpoweringly in the background (for a game with not much in the way of music this is very misleading-more on that later) as an older man with a chef hat stumbles into frame. That’s essentially what the cinematics in this game are like. So basically it’s still a little ugly, but istill kind of cute. It’s kind of like the graphical difference between the regular gameplay pipe-cleaner character models in Final Fantasy VII and their slightly-more-detailed battle models. Unlike the gorgeous CGI given to us by the likes of Final Fantasy, we are treated to a slightly more high-res and fluid version of the regular gameplay engine as the dialogue moves on its own accord. The scene opens up with the first of four ‘cinematics’ in the game. ![]() How the hell are you supposed to pronounce that? ‘Alaron’, it is!Īpparently you can name Alaron something with a skull or heart. While it would be fun to think of some kitschy-grade school level moniker for our chosen hero (and time will tell if inspiration will strike), we’re gonna stick with the canonical name for now. Unlike some games, in Aidyn we only have the option to name the protagonist. After fiddling in the options for a few moments (the original game allowed the option to play in a higher-res if an expansion pack was in the system, which didn’t really do much other than make the game run slower) I select ‘New Game’ and we are prompted with a naming screen for our protagonist. We’ve got three options here-New Game, Load and Options. They say it’s best to start a story at the beginning, and we’ve got a lot of technical gameplay and narrative setting stuff to get through (you are quivering with excitement, I know) so let’s not waste time.Īfter what feels like five minutes of loading we come to our title screen as the background pans over a bunch of locations we’ll encounter during the game. Welcome ladies and gentleman to our first foray into Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. ![]()
